Project 3: GreenSeed Grenades

On October 27, 2024, the Evergreen Humanity Foundation and Gummidipundi Lions Club successfully sowed 10,000 palm seeds in Natham village, Tiruvallur district. This single-day event aimed to help save dying palm trees and was made possible with the cooperation of local villagers.

The seeds were collected from Panangadu village, Andhra Pradesh, and carefully planted on the banks of Natham Chinna Kulam and Natham Lake. Small pits were pre-dug to ensure the seeds would easily germinate.

The long-term goal of the project is to combat soil erosion, improve groundwater levels, restore the local ecosystem, and support livelihoods, all contributing to the "Green Tamil Nadu" mission.

Project 2: Palm Seed Sowing

The Palmyra tree holds a deep and significant place in Tamil culture, serving as the official state tree. Revered for centuries, it symbolizes fertility, prosperity, and spirituality. Its various parts have been historically used in traditional arts, crafts, and construction, making it an integral part of Tamil society and traditions.

As part of a conservation effort, the Evergreen Humanity Foundation launched a two-phase project to plant palm seeds. In Phase 1, on October 6, 2023, 10,000 palm seeds were sown across five different water bodies: Isha Periya lake, Guruvachery pond, Puvalambedu Village lake, Soorapondi Village lake, and Sirupuzhalpettai Village lake.

The second phase of the initiative took place on October 13, 2023. Another 10,000 palm seeds were planted in five more locations. The sites for this phase included Chinna Obulapuram, Prithvi Nagar lake, Keerapakam village lake, Iyanellur Village lake, and Verkadu Village lake. This large-scale effort highlights the commitment to preserving this culturally significant tree.
