Project 2: Palm Seed Sowing
Palm seed sowing ceremony was held on 27.10.2024.
The function was presided over by gummidipundi Lions Club.
The benefits of palm trees were discussed in the ceremony. 10,000 palm seeds were sown in Natham village of Tiruvallur district in order to save the palm trees which are currently dying.


We would like to thank the President of Natham village and the people of Natham village for giving permission for the palm seed festival and helping the project.
The palm seed sowing ceremony was started at Natham village chinna kulam and then successfully completed at Natham lake on the same day. The first seed was sowed by the lions club and the program was launched. Along with this some saplings were planted.

Our organization planted 20,000 palm seeds last year and planned to sow 10,000 palm seeds this year. But this year it tried to sow 10,000 palm seeds in a single day. It has been successful.

Location: Panangadu village, Andhra Pradesh, which has over 1,000 palm trees.
Collection: 10,000 palm seeds were gathered on October 12-13, 2024.

Objective: To plant 10,000 palm seeds collected from Panangadu village, Andhra Pradesh, in Natham village, Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu.
Planting Sites: The seeds were to be sown in two locations within Natham village: Natham Lake and Natham Chinna Kulam. The seeds were planted on the banks of the water bodies, in accordance with the guidelines of the Tamil Nadu government.
Preparation: Small pits were pre-dug to:
Allow heat to escape, making the soil cool.
Facilitate easy germination of the seeds.
Enable quick sowing on the day of the event.
Long-Term Goals: The broader goals of such palm seed planting initiatives in Tamil Nadu are to:
Prevent Soil Erosion and Encroachment: Palm trees act as a natural fence and help prevent the erosion of lake banks.
Recharge Groundwater: Palm trees play a crucial role in improving groundwater levels.
Restore Ecological Balance: The project aims to increase the number of palm trees to support the local ecosystem.
Protect Livelihoods: Palm trees provide a variety of products (jaggery, fruit, etc.) that can support the livelihoods of local communities.
Combat Climate Change: Palm trees help sequester carbon and contribute to the "Green Tamil Nadu" mission.
